LEADING, Sir Alex Ferguson with Michael Moritz

This biography provides a look inside the brain of the most successful football manager of all time. The book centres around what Sir Alex believes to be the most important factors when it comes to leadership, both in and out of sports. ‘Leading’ is structured by the key skills Sir Alex believes are necessary for success: discipline, motivation, transfers, data analysis, and dealing with failure. These are just a few of the topics addressed in this fascinating biography. Written in 2015, it also includes Ferguson’s opinions on what has happened at Manchester United since his retirement. Needless to say, it is a must-read.

Available on Amazon, Waterstones, and most other book stores.

MUST READ: Berkmann’s Cricketing Miscellany, Marcus Berkmann

If you’re looking for an easy-read that will make you chuckle, and improve your useless knowledge of the game, this book is for you. Berkmann perfectly captures the nature of low-level cricket, and resonates with anybody that has played or watched the game. The book is split into 12 parts, representing each of the months throughout the year. In each section, Berkmann tells a light-hearted anecdote or statistic of professional cricketers whom have their birthday in said months. Mixed in are other features, including favourite test-matches, the struggles a village cricketer endures, cartoons, a glossary of cricketing terms and many more entertaining reads. This book couldn’t be better company when on the train, toilet or for a laugh before bed!

Available on Amazon, eBay, WHSmith and your local book store.

Cricket Fever: Mumbai Indians, Netflix

The Mumbai Indian’s are the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League. This 8-episode documentary follows the team through the 2018 IPL season, shedding light on the coaching setup, franchise owners, and players alike. Huge names like (and not limited to!) Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, head coach Mahela Jayawardene and legend Sachin Tendulkar, all feature. If you have ever wondered what it’s like behind the scenes in an environment that has more stars and pressure than anywhere else in cricket, this is your chance to find out. A must watch for all cricket fans.

Available to view on Netflix UK.

Take Us Home: Leeds United

Perhaps English footballs biggest downfall was that of Leeds United from the 2003-04 season and the following years. Having fought their way back to the Championship, this documentary dives into the Leeds United camp, as they seek return to the Premier League after 16 years outside the top division. The fly-on-the-wall series is set from the beginning of the 2018/19 season, following the appointment of Manager Marcelo Bielsa – ‘El loco’. Narrated by Russell Crowe, this series has it all.

Available on Amazon Prime Video.

Dan Carter: A Perfect 10.

A look inside the career and upbringing of 3-time ‘International rugby player of the Year’ winner, and the highest point scorer in Test rugby. This documentary-film delves into the injury struggles Dan Carter faced throughout his career, as well as his introduction to club and international rugby. The ‘intimate’ production gives insight into Carter’s personal life, and the challenging road he faced in the lead up to becoming a 2015 Rugby World Cup winner. If you’re into rugby, or want to know what it’s like living as one of the best athletes in history, go check this out.
